Musical Camirata Band – Biography
Background
The Camirata Group was originated in Europe in Florence, Italy by the end of the Sixteen Century. The Camirata have called for abandoning of the polyphonic music, and the revival of the ancient music of the Greek theatre that mixes drama with music. Under the strong impact of the Camirata and the growing aristocratic class, the opera art had notably matured and special opera theatres were established for the public. The members of the Camirata Group included artists, poets, intellectuals and musicians unified by a common belief and a shared objective. Prominent members of the group included Rinuccini, Vincenzo Galilei - the father of the famed astronomer Galileo Galilei- who was a singer and performer, in addition to Jacopo Peri. They used to gather and debate about musical issues creating a new future for music. Their early musical experiment touched on the dominant musical styles of the time particularly the (Madrigal) where they creatively introduced some amendments to the emotional expression school (Muheet al Finoun – 2 page 92).

Sudanese Camitara Band
The Sudanese Camitara Band is one of the Sudanese Traditional Music Centre's bands. The band originally emerged in the Music and Drama College in 1997 with a view to set up an orchestra of the Sudanese traditional musical instruments. The band laid out a three-phase plan assisted by several musicians, artists, poets, thinkers, researchers and dramatists. Its first participation occurred during the first phase in 2003 at the Millennium Festival for Traditional Music, which was sponsored by Sudanese Sound Company (folk music trio). During this phase the band comprised three musicians performing on several traditional instruments such as (Tambour, Umkiki, Adingo, Kondi Bambu, Zumbara, Rongo, Dungur and various drums). The group is generally interested in traditional music with special focus on traditional musical instruments, and is trying hard, through scientific research and modern research methods, to communicate its beats to the international audience. To this effect, the group, in collaboration with musicians from Belgium and France, organized a number of workshops on traditional music in the French Cultural Centre, Khartoum, in addition to several musical performances for the expatriate communities in Sudan and charted its way to the second phase with fifteen members including performers and dancers. The group continued to present its performances of the Sudanese diverse music styles using different Sudanese dialects and languages besides the costumes and dances belonging to different musical cultures across Sudan – east and west, north and south.
